Oral storytelling is one of Scotland’s most deeply-rooted, and yet underappreciated art forms. Map of Stories, a literal multimedia map of Scotland on an open-access website, features a collection of 77 stories to explore, celebrate and promote oral storytelling traditions in Scotland, and the rooted sense of place from which they emerge.

Map of Stories first launched at the 2022 Scottish International Storytelling Festival as a series of multimedia performances, featuring storytellers and filmed footage, creating a showcase of unique ‘film ceilidhs’ that celebrate the ancient tradition of oral storytelling.

Part of a wider and ambitious project supported by EventScotland as part of the Year of Stories 2022  and led by Edinburgh-based arts collective Transgressive North, Map of Stories invites audiences to celebrate languages, identities and oral storytelling: one of Scotland’s deeply rooted, ancient art forms.
