SISF Art Challenge: Making Statues

After last year’s first-time success, the SISF Instagram art challenge returns due to popular demand!

Every block of stone has a statue inside it and it is the task of the sculptor to discover it. (Michelangelo)

For this year’s SISF 6-day Instagram art challenge we are asking you to pick your personal heroes and to celebrate them with a statue, real or imagined. Let the camera be your chisel, the paint brush be your tool.

Fom 20 – 25 October we will dedicate a different daily art style to inspire your imagination. Everyone is encouraged to join the fun, all levels welcome. We will share some of the amazing artwork on our channel, follow us on Instagram @scotstoryfest.

How to start sculpting?

Browse through our list of style prompts, and let your imagination run wild as we prepare to reimagine our idols together in October. Still have some play-dough in the cupboard? Love to craft, or photograph things? Join in!

The challenge kicks off on Wednesday 20 October, with the first style prompt, ‘Watercolour’!

Each day of the 6-day challenge will be focused around a different art style. We’ll post daily reminders so you know which style to post on your channel, tagging us via #SISFArtChallenge and #MakingStatues, on the right day. The challenge will end on Monday 25 October.

Our style prompts:

  1. October – Watercolour
  2. October – Photography
  3. October – Pencil
  4. October – Collage
  5. October – Print (e.g. Potato/Cork/Leaves)
  6. October – Sculpture

What’s the prize?

The winners, who have completed every day of the challenge, will be announced on 27 October and receive a copy of Sarah Sheridan’s Where are the Women?: A Guide to an Imagined Scotland.
